Lighting Equipment for Fashion Photography - where do i get some?!?

You're not going to get much for £150.

A Yongnuo 560 speedlight costs around £60, a set of radio triggers about £27 and a 5-in-1 reflector about £9.

You'll need a light stand (£10) and either a softbox (£43) or an umbrella & hotshoe umbrella bracket (together about £35). Cotswold Photo on eBay is good for Strobist supplies in the UK.

That's about the bare minimum to do a single off camera light setup.

what you can do is - get a couple of flashguns, any flashgun from ebay with a guide number of 30, buy two flash trigger cells with hot shoe coupling and fix the flashguns onto each.

then what you do is buy two big pieces of white board or staple some tinfoil onto a board for a more glamour effect. then what you do is using your on camera flash, trigger the two slave flashes which will be mounted on tripods bouncing the flash off the white boards. you can bounce of white walls too if you prefer but this will use more power as the walls will be further away from the flash units.

otherwise buy a couple of secondhand studio heads from ebay under the studio section or buy from a dealr in the back of Amateur Photographer magazine.

The two strobe lights will typically throw two shadows on the background. There are a couple ways around it. One is to put two more strobes to the sides or slighting behind the model directed at the background. The other is to use a ring flash. With this the flash emitter goes around the camera lens, so no shadows will be visible to the camera. One note on this, the room lights should be bright enough that the models eyes are not dilated or you will get red eye.

£150 should be able to get you close to 2 Vivitar 285HVs and triggers, or a couple YongNuo YN460IIs (check out ebay.

for £150 you can get 1 YongNuo 560, a stand, umbrella bracket, umbrella... this will get you started for off camera flash.

But £150 won't get you far.

Chinese stuff from eBay might be OK. But it might be not OK - you really need to know what you are getting into before you stick your neck out like that.
