Need to stuff a Kong with something other than Peanut Butter?
Our German Shepherd puppy (13-14 weeks old) does not like peanut butter! Weird.
Anybody have suggestions for alternatives?

The absolute best thing is to fill it with some canned dog food, put it in the freezer, then throw it over to the dog for either one of his meals or when he is chewing on bad things. Frozen dog food is a bit more of a treat and it takes longer to eat.

It is absolutely OK to stuff your puppy's kong with peanut butter. Someone mentioned the mess it makes. It can. But that's just an inconvenience for us humans. Don't allow the pb-stuffed kong on any carpet or around furniture that would get ruined. If you have to have closed doors to protect such areas--do it. That's your human responsibility to keep your special human areas protected from messy dog treats. That freezing suggestion was interesting, and may even help reduce some of the mess. Maybe? Interesting, regardless. I've been involved with all kinds of canine training/trainers/sports, and believe me, peanut butter is a standard. The person "shocked" obviously isn't a member of the canine training community. If a dog, like a person, has an allergy, then obviously don't use pb. I've known individual dogs actively competing in sports, placing, and winning for over 13 years with humans who often used peanut butter. I'd put *any* of those dogs next to any dog ever owned by that person afraid of peanut butter, and then we could make a real life comparison.

My dogs love squirt cheese! Like, the stuff that Kraft makes that comes in a can? It doesn't hurt them because it's not real cheese. None of it is, actually. Don't use a whole lot, though, because it does have a high fat and sodium content. I like to squirt in a bit, shove some bits of dog food in there, then repeat the layers until the kong is full. My dogs go through plain cheese way too fast for it to be an effective attention-holder.

There are a myriad of substitutes other than peanut butter. Buy some milk bones and submerse them in sardine oil. Watch what your dog does when you give him one. Smile. Sardine oil is great for their coats and it is healthy for them. A beef bone is great, it not only stimulates his hunger, but it is good for his teeth, it keeps them clean and strong. I'd take hot dogs and cut them up, then I'd microwave them till they were almost dry. Talk about a nice treat. I used them to train my dogs Believe me, it is better than some of the treats they sell for dogs. I hope that I have been of some help to your and your puppy.

Anything he loves outside of the Kong, he'll love in it! Put his favorite treats up there, cheese, his dog food, wet dog food, cottage cheese is what my pups LOVE. Just about anything he really goes for!
