ok, 1994 mazda mpv, serious lack of power issue.?
driving home from the airport, it started to act up. lacked any power, had it towed home and let it cool off a bit. trans is only a half a quart low, but that is not really the issue. i can hold the throttle open and the engine just bogs. does any one have any info on this beast. i need to know the compression pressure for one and any other info that you might have that might keep me from just blowing it up.
it is an obd1 system but i dont have a scanner with me. i will be running some tests in the morning such as compression and tps sweep. i do not smell fuel what so ever so i really dont see that is a possibility. the fuel filter has not been changed in quite some time, but it does not sound like a fuel starvation. plugs and the rest of the ignition system of that nature was changed about 15,000 miles ago. i am not elimination that but it does not sound like that.
ran it again this morning after checking a few things. it will only rev to about 4000 rpm. the cat is my next idea. if i can not unbolt it and get higher rmps out of it ill be pulling the o2 sensor out for similar results.
pulled the o2 sensor out and it ran just the same. it will not accelerate very well at all.
failure, folks i found the information that i was looking for elsewhere. cylinder pressure should reach between 145 and 165 psi.

Sounds as if it might be getting to much fuel, check everything to do with the fuel first.

When was the last time it got a set of new wires for the plugs?
Give the thing a complete tune up, including the fuel filter and run some systems cleaner (injector cleaner) through the tank.
Some one may have put water in your gas tank while it was parked there too. So try running the tank out and refill it with a quality brand.

Is it a 2.3 il4 or the 3.0 v6? Scan computer for trouble codes. I think it might have the OBD l connector (possibly OBD ll ) Did you retrieve any trouble codes? It could be a fuel filter and/or air filter to eliminate the easy stuff. But it could also be a fuel pressure regulator, ignition coil, or pick up coil. You could perform a fuel pump pressure test. Clean fuel injection system including throttle bore, idle speed control motor and passages. Also check the EGR valve, MAP sensor and MAF sensor. Look and listen for any vacuum leaks. (soapy water helps) Here's a link that might help you out. http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/mazda/ Good luck! ............... I had a1987 mazda b2600 that had a clogged cat that caused it to bog but I thought that was rare...guess not......................was the pressure drop due to a head gasket???

Could be a plugged catalytic converter......you may try a intake vacuum test or an exhaust backpressure test to determine if this is the culprit.

it was sold to the junk yard years ago. she has since then bought a new van and sold that to a similar place for foolish reasons. not my deal any more.

Did you check to see if the catalytic converter was clogged, Just throwing it at the wall see if sticks.

Check the fuel pump and the various fuel filters (including the gas tank filter, any filter under the car, and the filter under the hood where the fuel filter comes in.
