When I start my computer the cup slowly keeps going up until it hits 100%, and eventually ends up crashing.?
I'm not putting a heavy load on it either, it just does it, even if I'm not using the computer at all, the cpu will still make it's way to 100% , ultimately resulting in either a crash, or else it just gets so slow and jerky that it's not even reasonable to continue, and I'll have to restart it anyway. Once the cpu hits 100% of it's processing capacity, it stays pegged, never dropping back down again.
Does anyone have any idea at all what could be causing this? I've done several virus scans, with several reputable anti-malware programs, and nothing suspicious ever comes up.
Also, is there some type of free software I can download that will do a system diagnostic on the computer? And perhaps allow me to pinpoint what program/process it is that's putting such a load on it? And/or perhaps a program that can diagnose hardware?
Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks
Steve

Press 'CTRL' 'ALT' 'DEL' keys together to open task manager... Click on the 'Processes' tab, click on the word CPU to sort the processes according to the CPU usage (You may need to scroll to the right to find the CPU at the top of the column)
Now, look at the name of the process which is using the highest CPU..It will be an exe name.. You will need to do the troubleshooting depending on the exe..
Once you find the process name you search in Google, along with the process name.. For example, if the process is svchost.exe, then search for "svchost.exe 100% CPU"
High CPU usage is mainly due to using older versions of browsers, browser plug ins, drivers and incompatible printer drivers.. Read this article for the basic troubleshooting steps that you will need to do for any process using 100% CPU:

High CPU issue doesn't necessarily mean you have a virus. It could be because of so many simple reasons..
If it is svchost.exe, then the problem might be with the automatic updates..
If firefox.exe, then the problem is with flash add on or other add ins.. If plugincontainer.exe, then again it is associated with Firefox add ons..
If it is explorer.exe or windows media player, then you may need to disable Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service (only applicable for Windows Vista and Windows 7)
If it is spoolsv.exe, then the problem is with your printer drivers..
