What's the problem with using "celebrity" names?
I hear a lot of people boo-hooing names because they make them think of a certain celebrity, or because it's the name of a character in a popular book. In the not so recent past no one thought it weird for a baby's name to be inspired by a favorite literary character or famous person. My best friend was named after an actress on one of her parents' favorite tv shows. No one associates her with that actress and no one has ever made fun of her for her name. If a person likes a name, does it really matter why they like it or where they found it? Is it really that much worse to name a baby after a favorite actor, character, or celebrity than to name a baby after a family member?
I'm not talking about weird names celebs use for their kids. I'm talking like how someone asks "what do you think of the name Edward?" here and 3/4 of the answers are something along the lines of "ew, no everyone will think he was named after Twilight." Is it really somehow worse to name a child after a sparkley vampire than to use a name because it was your great-great grandfather's name?
And as for "idolizing" someone by using the same name, I just don't see it. For example, I think Paris is a beautiful name, but I abhor Paris Hilton. Yet I wouldn't write off a name I like just because a famous twit happens to have it. By the time my daughter would be old enough for it to be a point of humiliation no one will remember who Paris Hilton is anyway.

Personally, as long as the person has is using the names for the 'right' reasons and it's because A) they really just like the name or B) they respect the person. etc, I see nothing wrong with it
The only time I see something wrong with it is when they are using the name as they 'idolize' the person or they want the child to be like the person. A child will become their own person- no matter what the name
To me, celebrities are just normal people who just happen to be famous. Everyone pees and poops or wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. Whether you hear a name that you like because it is the name of a famous person or the name that they used for their children- it doesn't matter to me.To me, it's the same as using a name you heard from someone in a grocery store or a name that someone told you about.Celebrities are just people.
One must also remember that a lot of the people who are 'current' celebs, they fade away. How many people were hugely famous 10 years ago and are now no longer around ? Many of them were one hit wonders or 2 years wonders
As long as you put much consideration into the name for the child, then who cares if it is the name of a celeb. There are celebrities all over the world

I think there are a few things to consider.
If its a name like Miley, the problem is a lot of other people will be similarly inspired and there may be a little Mileys out there.
If its a name like Paris or Beyonce, those names really mean only one person to a lot of people.
There are a lot of names out there though that are popular enough that the could share a name with a famous person, without raising many eye brows-- names like Jackson for instance

To answer you, not at all, the Palestinians are Arabs, they have Arab names,There has never been a civilization or a nation referred to as "Palestine" and the very notion of a "Palestinian Arab nation" having ancient attachments to the Holy Land going back to time immemorial is one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated upon the world! There is not, nor has there ever been, a distinct "Palestinian" culture or language. Further, there has never been a Palestinian state governed BY Arab Palestinians in history, nor was there ever a serious Arab-Palestinian national movement until 1964... three years BEFORE the Arabs of "Palestine" lost the West Bank [Judea and Samaria] and Gaza as a result of the 1967 Six-Day War (which the Arabs started). Even the so-called late leader of the "Palestinian" people, Yasser Arafat, was EGYPTIAN! In short, the so-called Arab "Palestinians" are a manufactured people...a people with no history and no authenticity...

BEcause some people really dislike certain celebrities, and would obsess over someone having the same name as them. Even if it's a super common name, like Brittany/Brittney.
I like the names Angelina and Audrina, but I'm not a fan of Angelina Jolie or Audrina Patridge (The Hills)

there is nothing wrong with naming your children a celebrity name.
a lot of people do it, although, timeless names like Romeo, are best not brought back.
tv shows and celebrities aren't around for very long, my sister was named after a character from the thornberrys, no one in her generation would know that because it's no longer a popular book.

I have no problem with traditional names borne by celebrities.
(John for Wayne, Nicole for Kidman, etc)
I have no use for the weird celebrity names (Eryka for Erica, Bo for Harold, Taurean Blacque for Herbert Middleton, Jr., Morgan Brittany for Suzanne Cupito, Elvis Costello for Declan Patrick McManus, Taylor Dayne for Leslie Wonderman, etc).
I loathe, abhor, abominate, despise, detest, and hate wacko celebrity baby names such as Kyd, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, Princess Tiaamii, and Rocket. The only saving grace is that celebrities' children grow up together and until they're old enough to google, they probably won't realize how idiotic their parents have been.

There is a difference between using the name Catherine or Audrey for your baby girl as say...Audrey Catherine, as a nod to your favorite actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Audrey Hepburn....and naming your baby Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen because you're a Frank Zappa fan.
:)

I believe it all depends on the name, like if you named your daughter Rihanna, I don't think that people will associate that name with Rihanna, now if you named your child Beyonce, then we have a problem because there is only one person named Beyonce and that is the singer, (plus "Beyonce" is a form of her mother's maiden name "Beyince")

I do not think so. My favorite celebrity name is Emma and I have always wanted to name my kid that. I changed her middle name though to Grace instead of a long one that I can't even prononce.

I think when you are telling your child what their name means, it means more to them to say that they are named after a family member that was very important to you and that loves the child very much. Not after someone you had an obesession with.
