Cats love to clean and lick. As long as he isn't obsessively doing it, like looks distressed it should be fine.
Burmese cats especially love to lick, my burmese loves to lick the couch, pillows, my arms, my beeding and he will do it for ages- like HOURS lol. His tongue feels like wet sandpaper ahaha
