Why do some people have a strong dislike of anime?

I looked through the 30 Top Rated Animated films and while Miyazaki's films reached high ranks (Spirited Away was highest at 5), people commented they dislike Japanese cartoons and some wanted them excluded from the list.

I don't see anything wrong with anime, especially since the films are still mostly handrawn compared to most animated films now.

I think that Anime is better than American now, but that's because American sucks right now. If you look at everything, American is better. How can you beat Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Simpson, etc??

However, I think part of it is racist or pride. Top animation are from America and Japan. Americans just hate the idea that another thing is better done by Asians. They can deal with the fact that the cars are better because that affects their pocketbook, but entertainment hits the heart, and Americans simply don't like that. I'm a big fan of Japanese entertainment. Not anime, but live action and music, and when I say that to Americans, they don't seem happy about it. Americans want to hear that you like their entertainment.

When people think about anime, they think that if something's a cartoon or animated then its just for kids. It's a false assumption but one that exists. Also, they may fail to realize that anime is as good or even better than any other "real" show that they watch on T.V. In some cases, a person might have seen a really bad anime and then assume that all anime are as shitty as the one that they saw. Open-mindedness is hard to come by, especially when it comes to new and different things such as watching anime. Hope that Helps.

    Most are crap.

"Princess Mononoke" is one of the few good ones that I've seen.
