Trying to find a UV protection filter for my Canon Rebel XT?
I just recently bought a Canon Rebel XT and a friend told me that a UV filter will help protect the lens, so I am looking. Right now the only lens I have is the 18-55mm standard lens that comes with the camera. I am wondering of the Tiffen 58mm UV protection filter will fit on my lens.

If not, which UV protection filter should I use?

For a smaller lens like this, I'd go for the sky 1A for a slight warming effect. Subtle results, but the UV haze is generally used on longer lenses intended to reduce atmospheric haze.
Again, the results are subtle, but I'd go with the 1A.
The price is right on the Tiffen UV, though. What a deal!
Good move by adding protection to your lens. Look into decent lens paper, a pencil lens brush and hurricane blower down the road too. A clean lens is vital for sharp images.

Well, you just need to figure out what the filter size of your lens is. I'm going to guess 58mm, because that's a pretty common size for such a lens (I'm a Nikon guy, so I'm not familiar with the Canon lenses) but you should check on your lens' website. Look on www.usa.canon.com or on www.adorama.com for that information.
Anyways, once you know what size filter your lens uses, just get a UV or a clear filter in that size and it will work! Most all lenses today accept screw-on filters, so any brand of screw-on filter will work, but I suggest that you stick with Tiffen or Hoya.
The reason that you get a filter is that if your filter gets scratched, so what? That's $18 for a new one. If your lens gets scratched... not so much. Still, make sure you treat your camera gear gently and take care of it! Sounds like you're on the right track.
