What if Yahoo had a "Men's Studies" section? Is it worth fighting for? And should WOMEN do the fighting?
Do you think the anti-feminists and their girl supporters would go there and talk about interesting men's issues, or would they still hang about here asking if it's OK to wear the lacy underwear they borrowed from their neighbour's clotheslines?
Is it possible they would uncover some hitherto concealed cache of "men's" learning that has not yet been revealed in the mainstream, and deal the much vaunted but currently hidden stunning blow to feminist theory while they are at it?
Would they be too busy with their own stuff to visit this forum? Or would they still hang around here because they recognise that they need women's energy and ideas but don't want to admit it?
** Yeah, I know ~ but I'm feeling a bit snarky today :-) Must have been the red wine and the ritual feminist bloke burning ~ my hair is sooooooooo full of grit this morning! **
Cheers :-)
SP: I thought that would be obvious. Every time the issue of girl's self awareness, or classes in self esteem for women is raised by some poor wandering innocent who happens to be passing through looking for answers, there's a chorus os 'what about the men', and 'why don't you organise courses for boys too'. Obviously men can't or won't do it and expect women to, so why not this, too?
Antimisandry, you were doing quite well until you got all personal. As you know nothing about me, my life or family relationships. what you've written is just silly, and effectively undercuts you other, errrr, 'arguments'.
Good point, Tera, thanks. So, do you think that "Women's Studies" is not a true academic discipline, or are you just referring to the activities in here?
Kessie, I am glad I didn't have anything hot in my mouth when I read your answer :-)
jonmcn etc: Please, don't hold back, give it your best shot, we're waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
Shingoshidao: Cyber wine coming your way ~ red, white or robot? :-)
Kendrick ~ just two? I'm to be consistently disappointed then? *Sigh*
Baba Yaga ~ A dangerous woman with your subversive laughter :-)
Heide ~ I wondered. They ask for more men's studies issues to be discussed, but never discuss them. It's always women this, feminists that, etc etc ... what ARE some men's studies issues, I wo.......... Oh, sorry, must have fallen asleep ;-P
Bingbing ~ Spot on, imo! That would be a lot more interesting than all the twaddle about whether feminists would get upset by men wearing their high heels!
The Mrs: There are a LOT of good questions there. Aren't they the sort of thing that should be getting raised instead of this never ending whining about horrid feminists?
JD: I've yet to see you actually contribute to a question or discussion on this forum. You have a lot to say, and all of it is about what feminists would or wouldn't do. You haven't even answered the question asked. Boring!

The protestations here by men about how ridiculous or redundant it would be, only hides the fact that you're right. They wouldn't have the intellectual capacity to maintain a healthy discussion amongst themselves. It would be no more appealing to them than boys playing alone without having to include tormenting girls as part of their definition of fun. Infantile? Yes! But there's not much of anything else they have to offer beyond this. So here we're left to deal with the "malcontents in the microcosm". Now pass me the wine!
Only intelligent people would want to participate in something like this: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EmergentDestiny/mess...

This used to be just called Women's Studies. The very wording seemed to inspire hostility. They recently changed the category to read as it is. Though it is better, the name still does not communicate the idea of an equal footing. It undermines the real drive behind Feminism by incinuating favoritism toward the female sex. Most of us really are about equality for all.....men AND women!!!
I'm not one to pick at technicalities, but can understand the brows raising at this. Perhaps "Men and Women's Studies" is a better way to label such a group.
It is doubtful that it would change anyone here to troll however. The trolls will do that no matter what we label the group.

Mostly men have money or power.People fight for this.Woman can be bought if you have power or money.Man is unique. There is nothing like his wonderful instrument penis.Man can make pregnant many woman but women can not make even a single man pregnant. She can have only one pregnancy at a time.

I like the idea of naming this forum "gender studies." After all, we have quite a mix of men and women here already, and the communication that goes on between us (though strained and difficult at times) is essential, in my opinion, to debating, raising awareness of, and hopefully resolving the issues that affect us.
Two separate forums might sound good in theory, but really, how much good can come from a lack of direct communication between us?

If Yahoo had a Gender and Men's Studies section, the major topic would be women, groping for answers and griping about truths. I think it'd be a carbon copy of this section. Let's just rename this one for each half year, kind of like granting custody of the baby. Would any number of women convince the yamsters to redesign the habitat? Doubt it.
C. :)!!

If men want to have a "Men's Studies category, they are the ones that should fight for it. I wouldn't see the point of it though since there is a large number of men already participating in this forum. Yeah, maybe it would help to drop the women's studies part from the title of this category. Or even have that separate Men's studies category. However, I don't think it would stop the people that come on here to just spit hate and bile.
I have no problem with the idea of men's studies dealing with gender. There are men on this that keep talking about masculinists and men's studies. Wish some of them would post questions and answers that reflected their beliefs instead of putting down women and feminism. Post questions that deal with honest men's issues if you're really interested in that.

I think this will give you a lot of useful information:

Should WOMEN do the lobbying? Never. It is presumptuous to ask.
But, of course, feminists think they should speak for everyone.

They need one, so men will stop whining. They also need a men's studies in college so we can try to figure out why men are so frightened by women's rights.

I think its all so asinine, why have a 'women's studies' and then a 'men's studies', when you could just have 'gender studies'. Just seems redundant to me.
And why in the world would women fight for a men's study? I think you have had too much wine.

The feminists would go into overdrive demanding that it be removed, because they are "offended" by men's studies.
Boycotts and letter-writing campaigns would ensue.
