Job Christimas party Question.....?

I don't want to go this year. And my pal says that if I don't go it would look like I am not a team player. I don't see that. What about you guys? I am here to work and go home.

You may hate it but the politics of working demand an appearance. Once you shake the bosses hand and say thanks for continuing to pay me, you can slip away and no one will even notice you are gone!!

Is there a conflict in timing of the party. Parties at Christmas are way overblown unless you need to brown nose the boss. I have a lot of friends at work. OH I AM THE BOSS!!

I have about 18 employees and we do a dinner party that I foot the bill for. It is just another way I say hey thanks for a great year. I also close the Auto shop for a week each year and we all go on vacation. in '06 it was Disneyworld since the guys have small children we had a blast, this year we went on a Disney cruise and WOW it was super..... I foot the bill for that too just to say thanks. I give the guys 3 weeks off, so the party for just schmoozin' I wouldn't want you to attend if it is an inconvenience or say you drive 30 miles one way, I really wouldn't expect you to show, it would be nice. And if you just make a showing we all know and will say oh so and so showed up for 30 minutes isn't that nice. Then we go grease his tools before he comes in Monday :-) NO the Handles!!

So it's up to you, is it PC to go then you need to go. If not and everyone is saying Awww you wont be there.... Awww then go.. You will be amazed what you can learn about others at the "away from work" party. Oh ya, heck ya, bring your camera. That is a guaranteed raise.

I'm not a guy, but I'll give my input anyway. It depends on your position in the company and the size of the company. If you are a higher "ranking" employee, you almost have an obligation to go and not showing would look bad. If it is a large company and you are a rank and file employee, I don't think anyone would even notice if you didn't go. As you say, "you are here to work and go home," I'm guess you really aren't that ambitious or that this won't be the company you chose in which to move up the corporate ladder, so I don't think it matters if you go.

Me too! I really get on with most of my workmates and would have a good time if it was more relaxed but they insist on dinner and a show, so you are bogged down for the whole night. So I will go, do the right thing and enjoy the free food and drink and suck up to the boss (maybe ask for a raise) when he gets pissed! IDEAS FOR YOU! 1. Turn up, make sure the boss knows you are there, then leave or.. 2. Turn up late when they are all full and you are sober, then leave 1/2 hour later (they won't remember). :)

You should go and make an appearance. Stay long enough for people to know that you are there and to mingle a little. Going shows that you are a team player, but it also gives you a chance to network. Your bosses also want to know that you appreciate that they have thrown a party, they might feel like you don't like there leadership (and even if this is true - you don't want them to feel that way because it could reduce your chances for future advancement)

You should probably go - but don't have to stay long. If there's dinner involved, stay for the dinner and then slip out quietly.
