you mention December, so the FIRST thing you will have to consider is as you drive North, the weather WILL get colder, and there MAY be ice and snow on the roads. Bring along warmer clothes, and expect traffic delays. In DC, definitely see the Capitol, halls of Congress, White House, etc--wonderful learning experience. In NY, if you are going to the city, see all the wonderful sights of Manhattan, like the Lincoln Center opera house on west 66th street, see Columbus Circle at 59th Street, see Central Park (59th to 110th Streets), but stay in the lower numbers part--safer that way. See Times Square (42nd St and 8th Ave) best at night when lit up. If you are there on the right day, take time to watch the lighting of the Rockerfeller Center Christmas tree (50th Street and 6th Avenue)usually about the 2nd or 3rd of Dec. See Ground Zero, where the World Trade Center WAS, (all the way downtown) for a historic experience. Not familiar with New Hampshire, so cant offer help there other than to say KEEP WARM.

Basically make sure that you have an awesome soundtrack - tons of good songs - a good iPod is ideal. Get Portable DVD player for sure.... watch a few movies along the way. as for stops - Stop By bed and Breakfasts, enjoy DC... Stop in for the Lobster in North Carolina. The east coast is really cool in its little spots. I'ts little towns along the way. Enjoy massachusetts, and their upstate antique galleries. etc. There's just so much so depending on how long ur gonna go for there's tons to do. New Hampshire - u can go hiking sooo many places its crazy... that's what id reccomend getting a good hiking trail enjoying the woods etc.

    good luck on your trip!

Be sure to have your car looked at by your mechanic BEFORE you go to avoid problems. Preventative maintenance is worth way more than we have to pay for it if it keeps us on the road when we need to be. Carry an emergency kit and extra water. Books on tape are very good at making a long trip seem short. Take a couple of lawn chairs so you'll have something to sit on in th empty house, and don't forget your bed roll. If you find an awesome sunset on the way, those chairs could come in handy while you stretch out your legs to enjoy it - cover up with a blanket from the bedroll for extra comfort while you enjoy the sights.

This is a very realistic answer. I know there is no snow in Florida so you need to add the weather into your trip. i travel for a living constantly. Ask yourself what are you going to do if the roads r slick or its snowing, are you prepared to sit on the freeway due to an accident, are you prepared if you slide into the ditch? Carry extra blankets, and some extra dry foods that you can eat, (energy bars are good, stuff like that). i know that traveling is fun, but planning a trip in dec is a little harder than normal. Traffic can be horrendous the more north you go. plan to sit around for awhile.

WOW! That is some road trip! Sounds like the trips I used to take in college, but I digress.

If you can, I would visit Pigeon Forge, TN (it's in the East part of Tennessee, not too far from where you'll be going/coming from. Check out http://www.blog.sophiesmountainoverlook.com/ for information on Zorb! It's the ONLY place in North America where people can Zorb . . . I can't wait to try it! Also, the chalet for rent, http://www.sophiesmountainoverlook.com/ is super inexpensive, yet has all the amenities that a place two to three times the price would cost. It's a steal.

Enjoy yourself no matter what you do!!!!

Play the abc game on the road, on road signs or other cars call out each letter of the aphabet till you get to z it's fun and it helps see the things around you. that away you don't pass it all up.

At the house tell gost storys or see what new things you can learn about each other.

You can stop, in NYC, on your way. Pick up a map, and a tour book. There are lots of things to see, and visit, in NYC. Empire State Building. The Intrepid Air Museum. Museum Of Natural History, Hayden Planetarium. Central Park Zoo. Hope you enjoy NYC. I sure do, when I go there. Also, get yourself a GPS unit. When you are on a trip, and you see sights, the GPS unit, can direct you to these sights, and get you there, no problem.

This time of year, it would be wise to have an emergancy kit in your trunk for bad weather issues. It would be good to have a stocked cooler with drinks and snacks. If you have a car load of people get each one to bring one or 2 items to keep them busy. Get there as fast as you can. When you get to your new house, try not to stay in the house, go and see your town.
