I just felt like sharing

I have been watching them for quite a while now. Do you have a pair of binoclars? If you do have a look through them at both Jupiter and the area around Antares. If you can hold them steady (rest your elbows on something solid) you should see some of Jupiter's moons. The area of the Milky Way around Antares is full of nebulosity and you will see stars of all colours in the area.

They are a sight, aren't they?

Jupiter and Antares are in a very rich area of the milky way.

Here is one of these Occasions where a small telescope with short focal length has the advantage because it can show a nice wide area of the sky, something the larger scopes can't do. One of the 80mm shorty Refractors or Orion's Star Blaster will show great views.

A little farther to the east, in Sagittarius, is the center of the galaxy and it contains thousands of interesting objects, including a whole lot of which are not listed in any catalog. A great place to explore as you constantly trip over fascinating places.

BTW, with a polarizing filter the surface features of jupiter really stand out since it cuts some of the glare from the planet. My favourite filter for this purpose is the two part, adjustible kind.

Too bad we can't post images here, it would be great to show folks some of these amazing things.

    Great stuff!!
