Irish whiskey?
Is there a noticeable taste difference between say Jameson's and a whisky/bourbon from the US like JD?
I had irish car bombs with a shot of jamesons/baileys dropped into a pint of guiness and I didnt notice the taste of it- I normally am not a huge fan of whiskey (prefer clear liquor). Do you think I would enjoy jamesons more?
The thing is I am trying to stock up on a few drinks to just have on hand throughout the summer in case people come over or something, and I know whiskey is something I should get too, would jameson's suffice?

There are a number of differences between Bourbon, Scotch, and Irish whiskey. The grains are different, and the way the grains are treated is different. The thing that sets Irish whiskey apart is the fact that it is run through the still three times, as opposed to Scotch, which goes through twice, and Bourbon, which is distilled once. That means you get a smoother product. If you are used to clear liquors, I would say Irish Whiskey is a good place to start. It goes down smooth, although with a little extra burn. Put it in a tumbler with one ice cube at most, and maybe a small splash of water if you need to.
As a regular Whiskey drinker, if I came to your house and you offered me a glass of Jameson, I would be quite happy.

The difference is similar to the difference in taste between an ear of corn and a piece of dark bread. Irish whiskey is not distilled with corn. Most American whiskeys and all Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey are distilled with corn. Jack Daniels in a Tennessee Whiskey that is distilled primarily from sour mash which has a corn base. Most American whiskey is sweeter than Irish whiskey. Also, American whiskey blends better with a mix, ie; water, soda, coke, ginger ale, etc.

If it is whiskey, I prefer Irish as it seems so smooth to me that drinking it neat is not a problem. I'm a US citizen but sorry, I cant handle Jack Daniels at all.
For Irish whiskey, Bush Mills or Tulamar Dew. Both go down like warm water . For Scotch whiskey, I like Glenfiddic ( sp) and most other popular Single malts.

If you are Protestant you will like Jameson more, else if you are Catholic you will like Bushmill better. If you are not Irish and American like me you will probably like Bourbon best. Sorry I don't care for Tennessee whiskey, maybe you do. Scot whiskey is of course the standard by which all whiskey is measured.

I don't drink whisky either, but Bushmills is surprisingly drinkable for me. Especially in coffee or cocoa.
