Figure Skating Instructors-Help!?
I'm a Figure Skating instructor for a local rink (not an employee, considered an Indy Contractor) and have worked there for 6 years, year-round. The Skating director went out on Maternity; meanwhile another Pro from another rink was Interim Director. In trying to build up the LTS program, she hired 3 more Pros (no problem), and is now in charge. Naturally during the summer, enrollment's low; however there are enough Summer Camp/LTS students to go around, and I wasn't given a Group. I've been put on the Sub list and told: "Let's see what happens in the Fall" plus rumor has it there's a lot of politics going on.
I really don't mind subbing, and I understand that the Director can do whatever she wants - but as someone who has been, and still is totally available, punctual, didn't make waves, has taught countless Groups, and hardly absent for the most part, I feel I should have gotten at least one group, over anyone else who came after me. I feel that this action says: "I really don't need you... but you're good enough to sub."
What do you think? Am I taking this the wrong way? Should I see what happens in the fall, or forget working at this rink?
2 個解答Ice Skating1 十年前Today on ATWT-Brad Becomes Visible and Says Goodbye?
Who saw today's episode of ATWT-Brad finally lets go. Very good acting - I grabbed a box of tissues! The background music didn't help either....except for Stille Nacht (Mannheim Steamroller)
I will miss ATWT - the actors tend to draw you in, and you feel their emotions. CBS is making a mistake by cancelling.....

I've worked at a certain rink for a few years and was always assigned Groups.
Before the Fall semester started, we Pros were e-mailed the Group Assignments from our Director, for a specific day. Myself and two other pros, also with senority, were omitted, shocked and upset. Two other pros who were recently hired, were assigned 2 Groups, 1/2 hr. each-which meant there were enough groups to go around (in total, there are 7 pros, another pro who's senior was also assigned 2 Groups; however another pro is only able to teach one group at present-and he also has senority).
Management hasn't changed, neither has the Director. We don't know what's going on; moral and enthusiasm between the three of us has dropped. To make matters worse, at the bottom of the Assignment E-mail, director added: "If (our names) would stick around and see if we'll need more coaches in case there are late enrollees, that would be great." The Assignment Sheet with that statement was hung high and dry on the rink plexiglass for all to see, including parents and rink staff. It made the 3 of us feel as though we were an afterthought, as if we're scraps off the table. We waited 5 minutes-then walked because we figured she wouldn't create an extra Group-she'll just give those late students to those Pros already on the ice. Enrollment's comparatively low anyway this time of year.
Please undestand-I have absolutely nothing against those late-hired pros who were assigned Groups. But fair is fair. If you're last in, with no senority, you should told to "stick around" - not your senior Pros.
This semester runs until mid-Dec., with a 2 week break, taking us into January. Who's to say this won't happen again? Should I give notice now, or wait and see what happens in January, it being an Olympic year, with possibly an enrollment surge, economy notwithstanding? I'm not a rink employee, I'm an Indy Contractor.
Thanks for your insights, opinions, yays or nays.
