  • Latin for "Children's Books" ?

I'm trying to construct proper Latin for this phrase, based on the roots "libri" for books and "natus" for children, to use in a fictional title (non-academic).

I haven't had formal Latin; I'm doing this from my bookshelf resources. I get "libris natis" with the textbook methods, and "Libri nati" with the less formal reference.

If anyone has had a year or two of Latin, I'd appreciate the help. I want to make sure I'm not plastering "son of a library" into this reference; the character supposedly remembers more Latin than I ever had.

  • What camera will display view on laptop?

We are having trouble getting "home" shots of art work to get into accurate focus. The Pentax K10-D auto-focus isn't accurate enough. Is there a comparable digital camera that will let us pipe the view-screen image to a laptop so we can get a full-size view of the shot to fine-tune the focus, watch for edge distortion, and the like?

  • How do I get a Violation explained ?

I've found a couple of related questions in the archives, but they were more airing frustrations than proactive.

I got a violation notice last week for an answer I'd given in Homework Help. The poster handed us an essay question; I replied that we couldn't do the entire essay for her, but gave her some leads on how to find the answers.

I replied to the violation notice, explaining what I'd done, and asked for a clarification on how I'd violated forum standards. I got a form reply that stated simply that Y!A had reviewed the case, and the reprimand was allowed to stand: in other words, ignoring the content of my message. I wrote back, pointing out that they hadn't clarified anything, and asked for a cognizant response within 72 hours.

Perhaps it will be no surprise to this forum that I've heard nothing in that 72 hours. Does anyone have any tips on how I can get through to a functionally literate human being to resolve this? The same thing happened the last time I was on Y!A, about 2 years ago -- and is the reason I left. I can find another forum or two where my efforts meet with better manners, although the audiences are smaller.

It's a shame, too -- since I recently made "Top Contributor" in three areas and I now show up on the Leaderboard for points.

    So it goes.

  • How to estimate fiber exposure from resin test print?

It's mid-term. My photography course is switching from resin-based to fiber-based paper. I have a boatload of RC paper already (the prof didn't have FB on the materials list or syllabus), and I'd like to use it for the test prints to save both time and money.

How can I estimate exposure time and contrast filter level? That is, I want to make a test print with RC paper, but use that to make my first shot at a usable print on the FB paper. I know it's still going to take 2-4 tries on the FB paper, but this cuts down on the un-budgeted cost.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Reference for Bach's "Toccata & Fugue" background?

In my music theory class many years ago, my prof gave us background for T&C in D-minor (the "Phantom of the Opera" organ piece). I could really use a definitive reference for this story.

Supposedly, The Church in those days had banned music in major keys (ionian mode), as they were "known" to elicit "inappropriate feelings" (sexual stimulation). Bach wrote the Vatican, requesting to use majors, claiming something to the effect that any competent composer could elicit any emotion desired in any chosen mode (dorian, phrygian, lydian, etc.). The Vatican denied his request. He responded with "Toccata & Fugue in d-minor".

Can anyone supply good references to support or refute this tale?
