  • How would it impact our culture if all men began using the generic SHE instead of HE?

A few years ago I used "She" instead of "He" in a business brochure.

Male reactions spanned from bewildered to angered.

Female reactions spanned from amazement to encouragement.

IF our daughters were to begin to hear SHE used AT LEAST as much as we say or write HE, would...COULD that not have a transforming impact on our society?

  • Did Jesus contradict Himself saying to be baptized in "My Name" and "The Name of Father...Son...Holy Spirit"?

Trinitarian Christians baptize "In The Name of The Father and The Son and The Holy Spirit".

Others baptize "In The Name of Jesus".

Is one of Jesus' statements correct and the other incorrect?

Or, is there a divine mystery which links the two and somehow makes both statements of His correct?

    How should we then baptize?

    Please elaborate.

  • Can you name a good place for a U.S. American veteran to retire; in or outside the U.S.?

I am considering retiring in or outside the U.S.

Looking for a place where my money goes far; a simple life where my contribution to the local economy will have a good impact on the local population

I wouldn't rule out moving to a place that is economically challenged

I am a retired Vietnam Veteran in my mid-fifties

I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian, so the ideal area would be somewhere Orthodox worship is easy to locate

I have a TAX FREE pension of about $3,000.00 a month

COLA increases yearly and "no off-set" Social Security coming in 7 years to increase my income.

Also, the U.S. VA will pay for most health care claims I submit from outside US.

Some ideas: Romania, Bulgaria and Eastern Europe in general.

Also Southeast Asia and Latin America.

    Not worried about culture shock.

My avocation is singing and songwriting.

I'm a retired Registered Nurse, not looking to do nursing, but having a lot of knowledge to share as volunteer.

Thank you for serious, informed answers.

  • What is the best town in which I could retire?

    I am single, mid 50's

    I am an Orthodox Christian

I receive a monthly pension which allows me to live comfortably in modest circumstances, meaning areas which are economically challenged.

I will have a positive effect on the local economy and would rather live in a small town, even one which is considered a "poor" town.

My health insurance is portable virtually world wide.

I would be willing to relocate outside of the US.

  • Can I SAFELY make a HD partition for my images and music files?

I have Partition Magic 8.0 which has done wonders for cleaning up the mess that COMPAQ installs on the D drive. I now have the factory backup discs, so I got rid of the D drive.

My PC is running in top shape.

As a songwriter and singer, I create many .wav (lossless) and .mp3 files (320 Kbps).

I also collect digital images from all over the world and through camera use.

I still have 87% free space on a 110 GB HD.

    I'm wondering:

    1. Can I simply create a new partition and use it as the default storage for my music and image files, as well as a location where I can relocate my current files (about 8 GB total)?

    2. Should I expect further improvement in my C: drive when I do this?

    3. Is it reasonably safe?

    4. I have a DVD rewriter. Would it be better to use that?

Thanks for your time and input.

  • Can you help me locate a CFL E17 base lamp bulb?

I have searched everywhere and every way, and can only find a DC version on an Australian website.

This is for a small ceiling fan that calls for an E17 size bulb base, larger than a candelabra base and smaller than the standard incandescent bulb base.

I already have an incandescent bulb. I want to replace it with a compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL).

I hope to find one in the range between 3 watts and 12 watts.

Thank you for any CERTAIN, FOR SURE sources.

I have already searched every lamp bulb superstore I can find.

  • Is the warning against nightime watering of lawns an urban myth?

    I live in a region of significant rainfall--about 60 to 70 inches a year.

Much of that rain falls in the nighttime.

My lawn seems to tolerate--even thrive--on this nocturnal precipitation.

Is there any difference between rain at night and watering at night?

I see no signs of disease in the grass.

It is hard for me to accomplish much watering in the early morning, so I begin about 4 to 5 PM. Because my yard is so large and the water pressure so low, it usually takes two full days to accomplish the task, and that includes watering until well into the darkness (8 or 9 PM).

After almost a week without rain, it was important for me to water today, as lime was applied yesterday. Again, I am watering well into the late evening, early night.

Please answer the general question, and also give me tips that I may have overlooked.

I am also going by the rule that lawns thrive more on soakings every three to seven days than they do from light watering daily.

    Thank you for your time.

  • What percentage of US Veterans are Employable and will this number decrease or increase now?

    Looking for THREE Catagories:

    FULLY employable

    LIMITED employability

    UNEMPLOYABLE.

I am a Vietnam Vet, considered UNEMPLOYABLE.

History and my experience teaches that MORE wounded Vets survived in the Korea/Vietnam era due to the advent of helicopter medivac use.

Therefore, after WWII, the ratios between EMPLOYABLE, LIMITED EMPLOYABILITY and UNEMPLOYABLE have shifted greatly, as more of the returning COMBAT veterans have sustained a level of wound that would have caused a fatality in the past.

Also, we now look for signs of PTSD sooner so more affected individuals enter treatment AND receive compensation, The Homeless Veteran population has expanded and advances in medical care and the work force (plus federal law) have also improved the chances that a seriously wounded veteran might be able to hold down some form of work, even at a limited level.

Your SPECIFIC answers, your GENERAL thoughts AND YOUR LACK OF POLITICAL RHETORIC will determine best answer.

  • What is a good ground cover and/or plants for shady flower beds?

Front of duplex is in the shade most of the time.

Center steps to common porch with enough space to each side of porch to plant something...ANYTHING...that will give a visual break from the lawn and perhaps even flower.

I haven't created a flower bed before, but I saw Martha Stewart do one on TV...

    I follow directions well.

BUDGET: I would like to keep it low, because I don't own the property, but I would be willing to plant a couple of shrubs (evergreens?) or other plants that will thrive in shade.

    Location: Nashville, Tennessee.

It is still early spring, as we just had a late freeze.

The building is all brick, and that would be the backdrop for the plants.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.
